Pivoting During the Pandemic

Like many others, McCurdy Auction has endured a lot of change during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our team adapted to new ways of conducting business, starting with our March Multi-Property auction event - an event that hosts nearly 200 bidders in a ballroom, turned into a live stream only event in a matter of days. The number of listings in the market decreased, but as a whole, the demand for properties increased.

Fast forward to today, live stream and online only auctions have become the new norm, and the market has adapted accordingly. McCurdy Auction has transitioned throughout the process and is now newly structured and successful in today’s real estate market. Our latest Multi-Property live stream auction brought in well over 200 registered bidders, with an unprecedented amount of out-of-market bidders. Many auctions that would typically be held in-person have been strong, if not better, in their new online only format. Much like our auction of 3105 N Ridge Port St, a Premier home and 4 personal property auctions part of the David Hambrick Estate. “We feel [McCurdy] did the best job. There is no other company or option that could have dealt with our situation,” said Cheryl Hambrick, spouse of the administrator for David Hambrick’s Estate. “The best part was being able to watch the auctions remotely.”

Even with the economic uncertainty that the pandemic has caused, McCurdy Auction has handled some unique properties! The auction of the commercial church building at 10330 E. Harry was especially exceptional for our team. Newly built in 2004, this property raked in over 11,300 auction views & 13 showings. We surpassed all the seller’s expectations when it sold for $150,000 more than the anticipated price. The auction showed how successful our new online only Commercial Multi-Property auction could be even in the midst of a pandemic.

Thanks to our award winning team, the Wichita community, and our consumers from across the country, McCurdy Auction has been able to adapt and continue to thrive throughout these difficult times.
